Whether the eyes are“the indo s of the soul”is debatable;that they are intensely important in interpersonal communication is a fact.During the first t o months of a baby’s life, the stimulus(刺激物)that produces a smile is a pair of eyes. The eyes need not be real:a mask ith t o dots ill produce a smile.Significantly,a real human face ith eyes covered ill not motivate a smile, nor ill the sight of only one eve hen the face is presented in profile(侧面).This attraction to eyes as opposed to the nose or mouth continues as the baby matures. In one study, hen American four—year—olds ere asked to dra people,75 percent of them dre people ith mouths, but 99 percent of them dre people ith eyes. 68.The author is convinced that the eyes are________.
A.of extreme importance in expressing feelings and exchanging ideas
B.something through hich one can see a person’s inner orld
C.of considerable significance in making conversations interesting
D.something the value of hich is largely a matter of long debate
69.Babies ill NOT be stimulated to smile by a person_____________________.
A. hose front vie is fully perceived(感知)
B. hose face is covered ith a mask
C. hose face is seen from the side
D. hose face is free of any covering
